Why Hold Matters More Than the Pick

Hold is the share of everything staked that a book keeps. A standard −110 on both sides holds 4.55%, and alternate lines and exotic props cost up to two and a half times that.

The effect compounds. A four-leg parlay at standard prices holds about 17%, because the book multiplies prices that already carry margin. Choosing the cheaper market changes your cost by more than choosing a better team.
