Rams Lose 18-16 to the Cardinals and Fall to 2-4
The Rams lost 18-16 at home to a 1-4 Cardinals team on Sunday, ESPN's Bill Barnwell wrote, dropping Los Angeles to 2-4 after a preseason in which it was a heavy Super Bowl favorite. Kicker Blake Grupe left early with a knee injury.
Barnwell reported that Matthew Stafford is 14th in Total QBR after finishing fourth last season, with six interceptions in six games against eight in all of 2025. He wrote that Los Angeles scores on 35% of its possessions, eighth-worst in the league, and starts drives with the fourth-worst average field position.
Two fourth-down tries failed against Arizona, one a handoff to backup tight end Davis Allen on fourth-and-1 and one a slip screen on fourth-and-8. The Rams have converted 50% of fourth downs this season, down from 65% in 2025, per ESPN.
Barnwell also noted that no team in the Super Bowl era has had a losing record through six weeks and still won its conference.

Our Read: Is the Rams Slump Bad Luck or Something Real?
- The market is shaving, not abandoning. Two points off the spread still leaves Los Angeles as a clear favorite, which suggests the price weighs the roster more than the record.
- Some of this looks like variance. Barnwell pointed to interception swings and a missed 65-yard touchdown that Stafford threw under pressure. A few feet on one throw changes a result.
- Some of it looks like habit. Field position, scoring rate and fourth-down failures all point at the offense, and those are things the play-caller can influence.
- The evidence points both ways. Stafford is still in the middle of the league on most measures, not the bottom, so a rebound is plausible but far from certain.
An unchanged total of 46.5 tells us little. It does not say the market expects the offense to fix itself.
What to Watch Before the Raiders Game
- Whether Grupe's knee keeps him out and who kicks.
- How McVay handles fourth down after two failed tries.
- Stafford's deep-ball accuracy and Puka Nacua's availability.
- Whether the line moves again by kickoff.
